We need donations toward Toby’s hospitalization.
Toby has been in a Long Term Special Needs Foster Home (see his bio in that section). Four years ago he came to us with a serious upper respiratory illness after living for an extended period in a hay loft in stables. He was fighting for his life at the time and also needed extensive dental surgery where all of his teeth had to be removed. We didn’t know if he would make it, but Toby, the little cat with the big whiskers, was a survivor! He recovered but was left with permanent respiratory damage. Toby would sneeze and cough a fair amount and also drooled due to having no teeth. He is a gorgeous kitty but could be quite messy at times – but always adorable. Later Toby developed hyperthyroidism, a skin condition, and high blood pressure. Even with all of these problems, Toby is congenial and happy kitty.
Toby recently had a bout of pancreatitis but is doing well. He is still on meds for his thyroid, kidney, and respiratory issues. We need ongoing donations to cover Toby’s medication.
Thank you to Toby’s friends who have donated towards his care. More donations are needed of any amount. This can be done through www.canadahelps.org to HelpingHomelessCats or by at www.paypal.com to firstname.lastname@example.org or with a cheque sent to Helping Homeless Cats at the address on this site.

THRIFTY's SMILE CARDS
The Thrifty's Smile Card Program for this year is active! Please use your current Smile Cards or get a new one by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll send you one.
At Customer Service in Thrifty’s or at the register (before they begin ringing up your groceries) you load your Smile card by Visa or cash. Then use it for your groceries and Thrifty’s will donate 5% to us from what you spend. You pay no extra.
In 2013 we received $2000 from the program which was a big help with food and vet care. Thank you very much for helping us in this meaningful way.

Sorensen Books is sponsoring Softie! We feel it is an honour that this very respected and lovely bookstore is helping our sweet Softie while he has his long wait for a home. We also hope for a miracle that someone shopping in the store may see his story and be able to provide a perfect home for him. Please visit this bookstore and make a donation of any size. (Donations of $10 or more will generate a tax receipt for you, but any amount is appreciated.)
Softie is a wonderful kitty who was being fed behind a grocery store by a kind person. He was living under a hedge and fending for himself for a long time. Finally he trusted the woman enough to allow her to capture him and he went to the vet for neutering and blood tests. Unfortunately, his time outside included contracting FIV so he is now “positive”. We tested him twice to be sure, even getting the more expensive test with fewer false positives but, alas, poor Softie still tested positive. However, he is a very sturdy and healthy cat! His FIV status means he needs an entirely indoors home but it does not mean a short life. It is best if he is an only cat or with another FIV cat BUT new research shows that if a cat is not fighting they will probably not transmit the virus. Softie is a very affectionate and playful adult and desperately needs a home. However, it may take awhile to find the right caring person. In the meantime Cathy Sorensen has taken on the project of having her bookstore sponsor Softie! Donations made at Sorensen Books are collected by our charity the first of every month and used for Softie’s food and supplies.

Cats of Greater Victoria Society was
formed in 2009 for the purpose of rescuing abandoned domestic cats and helping
feral cats. Our goal is to find good foster and permanent homes for cats we
have rescued so we can help more cats in the future. When possible, we maintain
long-term foster homes for seniors, low income families, and those on
disability. We rely heavily on donations from supporters in order to help cats
in desperate need of food, shelter, and medical care. Donations also allow us
to maintain our foster homes which greatly benefit not only the cats but also
the people who love them.
All cats in our care
have received: spay/neuter, shots, flea treatment, deworming, veterinary exam,
and FIV testing if deemed necessary. Medical treatment is provided when
needed. We greatly appreciate donations for medical care, such as when a senior
cat needs life-saving dental work. Before adoption, potential adopters are
welcome to have blood tests done at their own expense to more completely assess
the cat’s health status.
domestic cats are available for adoption and fostering to INDOOR-only
non-smoking homes. We have cats of all ages, including one-year-old cats to
middle-age. We love the seniors and have several sweet cats around 8 or 10. We
also have older affectionate seniors and many lovely shy young cats who are
available for sponsoring and visiting as they need help gaining trust of
humans. We seek sponsors to donate monthly to their ongoing care since they
have a longer road to adoption.
We maintain a foster program where cats live in loving homes while awaiting permanent adoption. We also have a special Long-Term Senior Foster Program, particularly for older seniors, where the cat is not up for adoption until such time as there is a change in circumstances with the senior, the cat or the rescue that makes it best for us to bring the cat back to the rescue.
our cats are adopted to INDOORS non-smoking homes only.
See the links under “adoption” in the About Us section which explain
in great detail why indoors homes are best.
