ANTIQUE, VINTAGE, NEW UNIQUE, AND HANDMADE ITEMS can be consigned with the profit going to Helping Homeless Cats

Philosophy of Old is a new consignment store in Sidney. The owners are very supportive of Helping Homeless Cats and also Dog Bless rescue.

It is a fabulous new shop on the west side of Sidney at #2 – 2075 Henry Avenue West, Sidney, BC V8L 1T2. Phone: 250-480-6696 (Take Beacon Avenue west with an immediate right on Galaran and go one block to Henry and turn left.) Hours: Wed.-Sat. 10-5, Sun. 12-5.

Consignments are taken on Wed. and Thurs. or you can call for an appointment at a different time. You can consign items for yourself or for the benefit of Helping Homeless Cats or Dog Bless. This is a fun way to downsize and also help the cats and dogs who have been rescued and need help with their food and vet care.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our holiday fundraisers by purchasing candy and tea to benefit the kitties. We appreciate it that many people also encouraged friends to take part. We made approximately $1,400 which goes directly to vet care and food for the rescued cats still awaiting foster or adoptive homes.

There is still time to buy desk and wall calendars. Please email for more info..

The best gift of all is to make a donation to the rescue in the name of a friend or family member. This is especially nice for a cat lover who will appreciate this more than a material gift. We will send a sheet with the photo of a cat being helped and a description of the cat’s situation. See our Donations section for ways to donate. Please email us at so we can get exact info for your gift notice and your tax receipt.

All cats on this website require
INDOOR - ONLY adult homes

We focus our resources on rescuing and rehoming mature cats.
Thank you for understanding.

The Thrifty's Smile Card Program for this year is active! Please use your current Smile Cards or get a new one by emailing us at and we’ll send you one.

At Customer Service in Thrifty’s or at the register (before they begin ringing up your groceries) you load your Smile card by Visa or cash. Then use it for your groceries and Thrifty’s will donate 5% to us from what you spend. You pay no extra.

In 2013 we received $2000 from the program which was a big help with food and vet care. Thank you very much for helping us in this meaningful way.

February 2015 update:  Softie’s adoption is going very well! He is becoming good friends with his new “dad” and his roommate “Girl Cat”!

Sorensen Books is now sponsoring Torri the Torbi – update soon!

1027 Cook Street (at Fort) Victoria, BC

SoftieSorensen Books is sponsoring Softie! We feel it is an honour that this very respected and lovely bookstore is helping our sweet Softie while he has his long wait for a home. We also hope for a miracle that someone shopping in the store may see his story and be able to provide a perfect home for him. Please visit this bookstore and make a donation of any size. (Donations of $10 or more will generate a tax receipt for you, but any amount is appreciated.)

Softie is a wonderful kitty who was being fed behind a grocery store by a kind person. He was living under a hedge and fending for himself for a long time. Finally he trusted the woman enough to allow her to capture him and he went to the vet for neutering and blood tests. Unfortunately, his time outside included contracting FIV so he is now “positive”. We tested him twice to be sure, even getting the more expensive test with fewer false positives but, alas, poor Softie still tested positive. However, he is a verySoftie sturdy and healthy cat! His FIV status means he needs an entirely indoors home but it does not mean a short life. It is best if he is an only cat or with another FIV cat BUT new research shows that if a cat is not fighting they will probably not transmit the virus. Softie is a very affectionate and playful adult and desperately needs a home. However, it may take awhile to find the right caring person. In the meantime Cathy Sorensen has taken on the project of having her bookstore sponsor Softie! Donations made at Sorensen Books are collected by our charity the first of every month and used for Softie’s food and supplies.

Elements Compounding Pharmacy

Helping Homeless Cats of Greater Victoria Society was formed in 2009 for the purpose of rescuing abandoned domestic cats and helping feral cats.  Our goal is to find good foster and permanent homes for cats we have rescued so we can help more cats in the future.  When possible, we maintain long-term foster homes for seniors, low income families, and those on disability.  We rely heavily on donations from supporters in order to help cats in desperate need of food, shelter, and medical care.  Donations also allow us to maintain our foster homes which greatly benefit not only the cats but also the people who love them.

All cats in our care have received:  spay/neuter, shots, flea treatment, deworming, veterinary exam, and FIV testing if deemed necessary.  Medical treatment is provided when needed.  We greatly appreciate donations for medical care, such as when a senior cat needs life-saving dental work.  Before adoption, potential adopters are welcome to have blood tests done at their own expense to more completely assess the cat’s health status.

Our domestic cats are available for adoption and fostering to INDOOR-only non-smoking homes.  We have cats of all ages, including one-year-old cats to middle-age.  We love the seniors and have several sweet cats around 8 or 10.  We also have older affectionate seniors and many lovely shy young cats who are available for sponsoring and visiting as they need help gaining trust of humans.  We seek sponsors to donate monthly to their ongoing care since they have a longer road to adoption.

We maintain a foster program where cats live in loving homes while awaiting permanent adoption.  We also have a special Long-Term Senior Foster Program, particularly for older seniors, where the cat is not up for adoption until such time as there is a change in circumstances with the senior, the cat or the rescue that makes it best for us to bring the cat back to the rescue.

All our cats are adopted to INDOORS non-smoking homes only.  See the links under “adoption” in the About Us section which explain in great detail why indoors homes are best.
